Wihuri, a Finnish machinery attachment company, added a new product to their inventory. The new product is called “juoksuratapesuri” in Finnish and can be translated as “Running Track Washer.” And it is based on the SCU Surface Cleaning Unit. We interviewed Teemu Häkkinen about this new product. And why it is such a good idea?
- First of all, there are so many running tracks and sports fields in the world and at the same time, there are only a few attachments that are designed for cleaning these surfaces. We wanted to offer an attachment that is simple and easy to use with commonly used compact loaders.
The unit is indeed simple to use. All you have to do is to pick it up with a compatible loader and attach two hydraulic hoses and the electrical plug to the machine. This is a game-changer in the field of sport field maintenance because commonly used systems have front and back units and requires power take-offs front and back of the machine.

- For example, in Finland, compact loaders like Wille are used widely for plowing in the winter and with the running track washer, these same machines can be used in the summertime for washing.
Regular washing is a great way to keep surfaces in good shape, and synthetic rubber, which is commonly used as running track surface material, also benefits from regular cleaning. Why is that?
- All kinds of dirt end up in the pores of the track. Washing them means that rainwater can penetrate the surface meaning the surface dries out faster. Further, this means all kinds of algae, mold, and such, which harms the surface material, cannot survive on it, explains Teemu Häkkinen.
