The Courage to Grow and Develop – Edwin’s Growth Story from Fitter to Engineer at Dynaset

When Edwin Pasto joined Dynaset in 2021 as an assembler in the HPW Hydraulic High Pressure Water Pumps department, he had no idea how significant this step would be for his career. During his summer job and student internship, Edwin gained valuable experience of the production processes and how the product goes from start to finish – from assembly to testing, to stock, from there to the customer.

On his last day in production, Edwin received an interesting proposal when Dynaset’s Product Development Manager Pasi Yli-Kätkä came to talk to him, “Hey, I heard that you are studying to become a mechanical engineer and today is your last day here, would you be interested in coming to discuss the possibility of becoming a mechanical designer?”

“I jumped at the chance, even though I knew that combining studies and work could be challenging,” Edwin recalls. The decision opened the door to a new career path as an engineer. This decision has led him to the heart of assembly process development and production support tasks.

The courage to take on challenges

In 2022, Edwin was balancing work and studying mechanical engineering, working part-time during the winter and full-time during the summer as a mechanical design trainee. In his engineering work, he learned how to put his studies into practice and understood the importance of being brave enough to take ownership of projects.

Edwin’s long-standing passion for floorball has also shaped his mindset and approach to work, “Edwin’s passion for floorball brings with it a strong team spirit, which is also reflected in his work. He is able to work effectively as part of a team and understands how collaboration drives the whole team forward.” Pasi praised.

In the summer of 2024, Edwin joined the Production Support and Development team, where he has been responsible for developing the assembly line according to Lean principles. “It’s rewarding to see your handprint quickly and see how the changes improve the way people work and production runs,” he says.

Graduation and a thesis that produced concrete results

November 28, 2024, was a special day for Edwin – he graduated as a Mechanical Engineer from Turku University of Applied Sciences. His thesis “Development of the Assembly Process in the Target Company Mechanical Department”, commissioned by DYNASET, focused on streamlining processes and eliminating waste. The work resulted in concrete solutions that improved production efficiency, ergonomics and quality.

“The thesis project gave me the opportunity to develop my skills as a project manager and to produce something new and important. It taught me that having the courage to think differently and question established practices can produce great results.” Edwin says.

Objectives for the future

DYNASET has given Edwin the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally. He appreciates the family business atmosphere and the way responsibility and support are given to each employee. “This place feels like a family – they pull together and encourage courage,” he sums up.

In his future career goals, Edwin is looking for a position in management, for example as a Development Manager or Production Operations Specialist. “I want to be involved in development work, make meaningful decisions and contribute to continuous improvement directly at a practical level – where I can put on my overalls and see tangible results in production,” Edwin says.

Edwin’s story is an inspiring example of how courage, curiosity and the opportunities offered by Dynaset can combine to create a unique career path.
