Hydraulic Power Take-Off (PTO)

Hydraulic power take-off converts the mechanical power to fluid power for a piece of hydraulic equipment.

Hydraulic Power Take-Off (PTOs) make it possible to use the engine power of a machine, vehicle, or vessel for other purposes. These systems can be installed on virtually any machine or vehicle, enabling versatile tasks across a wide range of industries.

Easy to integrate and highly durable, hydraulic PTOs enhance efficiency and reliability, even in demanding environments. They’re the ideal solution for powering hydraulic equipment and auxiliary tools. Since one PTO can be used for multiple pieces of hydraulic equipment, it truly opens up endless possibilities for hydraulic applications.

Partner Companies Providing Installation-Ready PTO Kits

  • E.C. srl
    • Specializes in belt-driven PTO installation kits for European vehicle brands such as Iveco and Volkswagen.
  • Bezares
    • The third-largest aftermarket manufacturer of PTOs globally. Bezares specializes in transmission PTOs, supplying them to most commercial vehicle brands.
  • DewEze
    • A leading clutch pump kit brand in the U.S. Each belt-driven clutch pump kit is mounted to the engine, with flow capacities ranging from 5 to 17 GPM. These kits deliver the flow, pressure, and power needed for tough jobs and are designed for light and medium-duty work trucks, including Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford, and more.

Power Take-Off Types

  • Engine PTO
An engine PTO is used when the engine has an SAE or DIN-type attaching point. It can be used while driving and is capable of handling significant power. Most modern trucks are equipped with SAE or DIN-type attaching points, making engine PTOs suitable for applications such as refrigerated transports.
  • Belt Drive PTO
A belt drive PTO is ideal for vehicles without an SAE or DIN-type attaching point for a PTO. Power is transferred from the crankshaft via a belt. This type of PTO can be installed on any vehicle and used while driving. Common applications include vans and pick-ups.
  • Transmission PTO
A transmission PTO is installed when the transmission has an SAE or DIN-type attaching point. It operates while the vehicle is stationary, making it ideal for powering applications like pipe cleaning units.
  • Split Shaft PTO
A split shaft PTO is implemented on the Cardan shaft and operates while the vehicle is stationary. When activated, the splitter redirects power from the Cardan shaft to hydraulic equipment, such as a power washer.

How Does the Hydraulic Power Take-Off Work?

The hydraulic power take-off (PTO) converts the power of the engine into hydraulic power.

  • The PTO transfers engine power to a hydraulic pump.
  • The hydraulic pump generates hydraulic oil flow and pressure.
  • The hydraulic oil flow is directed to the hydraulic equipment through the pressure line and returned to the system’s hydraulic oil tank via the return line.
