Vema Lifts’s aerial work platforms provide high-pressure water and electricity to rescue workers at height

In rescue operations, every second counts; at the same time, water used that is used in firefighting unfortunately often causes water damage. The Vema Lifts’ aerial work platforms used by the Lapland Rescue Department utilize Dynaset’s hydraulic solutions, which provide the platform both electricity and high-pressure water.

Vema Lifts equips its aerial work platforms with Dynaset’s HG Hydraulic Generator 6,6 kVA and the HPW 250 Hydraulic High-Pressure Water Pump when requested. This solution utilizes the vehicle’s existing hydraulic system, eliminating the need for separate motors.

The HPW 250 Hydraulic High Pressure Water Pump is mounted on the lift platform together with a hose reel and the HPW-FIRE High Pressure Firefigting pistol kit. The entire system is always ready for use and can be deployed very quickly from the rescue basket.

A familiar piece of equipment is also visible at the base of the boom—the DYNASET HG Hydraulic Generator 6,6 kVA. The generator uses the vehicle’s hydraulic system to supply electricity to the rescue crew in the rescue basket.

The high pressure piercing nozzles used in high-pressure firefighting are particularly suitable, for example, for creating containment lines in burning roof structures. A fine-mist high-pressure water spray absorbs heat extremely effectively and helps slow the spread of fire, while water consumption and the amount of water damage remain significantly lower than with traditional firefighting methods. The high-pressure piercing nozzle series includes an offensive and a defensive nozzle, the former with an 80-degree spray angle and the latter with a 170-degree spray angle.

At the Lapland Rescue Department, experiences with the system have also changed preconceived notions.

“During the procurement process, I was personally opposed to this. But the device was installed because there was strong demand for it. Even after the first roof-penetrating attic fire suppression operation, I received feedback that the device is truly excellent. Based on this feedback from the field, the device will remain standard equipment on our aerial platforms going forward,” summarizes Equipment Specialist Sakari Pyhäjärvi of the Lapland Rescue Service.

Dynaset in Other Rescue Operations as Well

Dynaset’s HPW Hydraulic High-Pressure Water Pumps and HSP Hydraulic Submersible Pumps are also earning acclaim in other rescue operations. The Pirkanmaa Volunteer Fire Department’s unique firefighting excavator utilizes an HPW Hydraulic High-Pressure Water Pump, and the same fire department is also testing an HSP Hydraulic Submersible Pump for additional water supply purposes.
