A Swiss company called Carbagas is part of the massive French Air Liquide group, which is one of the world’s leading gas manufacturers. Air Liquide manufactures transport refrigeration units and refines and processes all kinds of different gases, like nitrogen, oxygen, argon, carbon dioxide, helium, and acetylene, for further use. It has over 300 personnel in Switzerland, offices in multiple countries and its headquarters is in France.
For the past ten years, Carbagas has been offering its customers onboard transport refrigeration units for truck deliveries based on liquid nitrogen and a conventional cooling system with electric and mechanical compressors. Until 2019, Carbagas used a mechanical compressor, but this was no longer satisfactory for cooling capacity. In addition, the customer now wanted the option of cooling and heating.
Carbagas started looking for an onboard energy solution. As the head of this new project, Fabien Coursimault started looking for a solution. He ended up finding Dynaset and HGV Power Box Variable Hydraulic Generator System.
The HGV Power Box produces constant, high-quality electricity through an engine or transmission power take-off, independent of the engine RPM. It produces electricity even on idle.
Carbagas equips refrigerated trucks for Pistor, one of Switzerland’s leading trading and service companies. Pistor has 92 trucks customized for all sorts of purposes, operating across Switzerland. Seventeen of these trucks are equipped with special dual-climate refrigeration units, including the Power Boxes. These trucks run eight to nine hours every day which means that providing constant and stable power for two separate cooling compressors is a demanding task.
Carbagas installed their first HGV Power Box in December 2019 and has been expanding their lineup since.
The overall feedback from the daily operators of the power boxes has been positive, and Fabien compliments Dynaset’s swift response and great customer service.
Dynaset will shortly return to Switzerland to install the new IP54-certified HGV Power Box. Thanks to its galvanized zinc frame and stainless-steel cover, the new model will be much more durable against the harsh elements that it has to endure under a truck in a varied climate.
